How do I take over the management of a deposit and transfer it into my name?

TDS Insured to TDS Custodial:  If your agent/current landlord uses TDS Insured and you want to make the change to TDS Custodial under your own management, the first step would be to create a custodial membership (if you don’t already have one) and register the details of the deposit under your own custodial membership. Once you have registered the deposit, you should provide the TDS Custodial scheme bank details and the relevant reference to the agent so that they can transfer the deposit monies directly to TDS. Once TDS receives the money, we will allocate this against the registration, and you will receive an email to confirm the deposit is protected.

TDS Custodial to TDS Custodial: If your agent/current landlord uses TDS Custodial and you wish to manage the deposit through your TDS Custodial account, the current member will need to initiate a deposit transfer from their own account. You will need to give them your full name/company name, as it appears in your TDS Custodial account, and your TDS Custodial membership number in the format EW12345.

They will need to log into their account and select 'Deposit Management' to find the deposit protection, then select 'View/edit' which will display the deposit details page. There will then be an option to click 'Transfer deposit’ at the bottom of the screen.

Once they have submitted the transfer request, we will automatically notify you and invite you to login to accept the transfer. We will then transfer the deposit protection - both the deposit details and funds - to your account and they will no longer have access to it.

We will notify them, yourself and the tenant(s) of the change. As the new landlord, you will need to re-serve the Prescribed information and Scheme Leaflet within 30 days.
